Surfing film star ‘shocked’ by seal’s sudden leap

Craig Anderson, who makes a living making surfing films, was on location in Namibia for his first profile surf film when a seal leaped out of the water just inches in front of him and scared the bejeebers out of him, or so it appeared.

Beren Hall, a local at the location called Skeleton Bay, happened to notice some seals frolicking nearby and decided to start recording and caught the humorous encounter in video.

The video was made in 2013 while Anderson was making his first film called “Slow Dance,” but it is only now being released to the public.

“When he came in, he couldn’t believe I had actually filmed it happening as he was just paddling back out and I happened to hit record as I noticed some seals coming down the point and thought I might be able to capture one near him,” Hall told us. “I had no idea it would come so close though! Craig said he was more shocked than scared after it jumped and kept surfing for another hour or so after that. It would have been a different story if it was a shark.”
